Committee

The committee is elected by the members of the club every year at the AGM.  You will find members of the committee at West Wickham Pool on a Monday night, Chipstead Lakes on Friday evenings and at the various weekend trips.

Safety Officer

Responsibilities
  • To act as a point of reference for club members with safety concerns or queries
  • To record reports relating to safety concerns
  • To collate near miss and accident reports including reporting to the BCU when appropriate
  • To advise the committee on safety related matters
  • To raise safety concerns with the committee
  • To advise the training lead where more training would lead to a safer environment and activity
  • NB it is not the safety officers responsibility to ensure safety of club members as this rests with all club members

Welfare (Protection) Officer

Responsibilities
  • To provide information and advice on child protection within the Club and promote a child focus
  • To implement screening procedures within the club
  • To be a confirmation signatory, verifying the identity of individuals completing disclosures
  • To receive information from members including children or parents and carers who have child protection concerns and record it
  • To assess the information promptly and carefully, clarifying and obtaining more information about the matter as appropriate
  • To advise the Club about Child Protection training opportunities
  • The designated person should be aware of the local statutory child protection network, including the contact details for the local Police and Children’s Social Care Services, the role of the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board (LSCB) and the awareness of local inter-agency child protection procedures
  • They should understand the BCU Child Protection Policies and Procedures and the requirement to safeguard and protect children in sport
  • Awareness of Equity issues and Child Protection
  • Understanding of poor practice and abuse – behaviour that is harmful to children
  • They should be well known in the club and have a strong child focus
  • They need to be accessible to and approachable for children and young people
  • Have undertaken or willing to undertake the Sports Coach UK Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop or an equivalent training programme. They must also be committed to attending the BCU Time to Listen Workshop that has been developed specifically for Club Welfare Officers with the NSPCC.

  • Maintain list of ‘yellow T-shirt’ training completed
  • Maintain list of river leaders / coaches
  • Work with members of the club to form a training sub-committee
  • Organise the pool rota for coaching and yellow T-shirt cover
  • Organise Chipstead rota

NB it is not for the training lead to lead all training – they coordinate coaches and others

Responsibilities
  • Organise events calendar
  • Liaise with others to ensure clashes do not occur
  • Work with the Training Lead to form ‘events and training’ sub-committee
  • Arrange for each trip to have a trip organiser and advise them on the correct procedures
  • Arrange for social events to be organised

NB it is not for the events lead to organise all or any events – they coordinate others

  • Maintain the membership records
  • Administer WebCollect
  • Prepare report for BCU affiliation
  • Work with communications lead to form ‘membership and comms’ sub-committee

Responsibilities
  • Maintain equipment inventory
  • Organise maintenance of storage facilities including ‘the Den’ and the pool
  • Organise repairs of equipment as required
  • Act as a point of contact for all queries to do with equipment
  • Obtain quotes for new equipment as required
