Level 1 Coaches Course – Part 2
4 June, 2016 - 6 June, 2016
If you are looking to make that step into coaching kayaking and canoeing, then your first step is the Level 1 Coach Award. This is now the first step of the coaching ladder which all that are new to coaching must begin with before progressing further.
BCC in partnership with LNC has a number of places on a L1 Coach course which is due to be held at LNC’s centre in Oxfordshire. The course is a four day course being held over two weekends on the following dates;
Saturday & Sunday 28th/29th May 2016
Saturday & Sunday 4th/5th June 2016
This four day course consists of the training and assessment which is made up of theory and practical sessions. Upon successful completion of this course the candidates come away as qualified L1 coaches, there is no further assessment.
The prerequisites of the L1 course are, 2* UKCC or 2*K and 2*C and the FSRT award plus be aged 16+. However if anyone who is interested does not have the awards but is at the appropriate standard the assessments will be available through BCC or LNC before the L1 course.
The cost of the L1 course is yet to be confirmed but will be no more than £100, this includes accommodation and food. This is considerably cheaper than an external course due to grant funding and members who comply with the conditions of the BCC ‘Self-Funding’ form will be able to claim back a percentage of the cost from BCC. Members will be expected to use their coaching experience and knowledge for the benefit of BCC members at club nights and on trips.
There is also a registration fee of £39 for Canoe England members or £55 for non-members.
Upon successful participation of the course, Level 1 coaches can deliver and assess the Paddle Power Passport award and the 1* award as well as being qualified to coach on sheltered waters, like Chipstead Lake.
If the demand for this course exceeds the places available they will be allocated on merit.
