Just a quick note to confirm the current position in our paddling world:
Government and British Canoeing advice
The Club fully supports the Government and British Canoeing advice and will not be organising any club day trips or weekend trips until we are able to travel and mix in groups again. As a general bit of advice, we would strongly recommend that you don’t peer paddle (and definitely don’t paddle on your own) as going against national membership advice may invalidate your insurance with British Canoeing, as well as put extra strain on already stressed public services should you get into trouble. Note you are not covered by Bromley Canoe Club for a trip we haven’t organised, even if you are our member.
Chipstead Sailing Club are fully closed down and therefore this facility is currently totally off limits to us until further notice.
The Youth Games training can obviously not take place at the moment, and we are assuming that the London Youth Games themselves will sadly be cancelled in the next couple of weeks, we’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything.
The Exe and Barle and North Wales trips are now cancelled and we will be in touch with those that have paid to ask if you want to move your monies on to a trip (hopefully!) later in the year. We are informed that Plas Y Brenin have closed and therefore the same applies to the White Water Safety and Rescue Course. We are asking them if the course can be moved to later in the year and will let you all know as soon as we can.
Finally, we would like to wish all our members continued good health, and if anyone needs anything, even just a chat if you’re feeling a little lonely, please do get in touch with us and we’ll organise an online get together or something. Use the Facebook pages, and if anyone has any ideas about how we can all communicate and stay in touch do let us know.
West Wickham Pool have now informed us they are closed following the Primeminister’s announcement yesterday. This means our regular Monday session cannot take place.
Look out for emails from the Club and updates on Facebook
The pool remains open and as long as that’s the case the club will run the normal sessions. As usual though we need numbers to make it viable (virus or not) so do keep coming.
Exe & Barle trip – CANCELLED
Sadly we’ve had to cancel the Exe and Barle trip and hope to move it to later in the year, we’ll keep you posted. If you paid you can choose to get your money back or switch it to another trip.
We’re keeping an eye on the situation and we’ll let you know about other trips nearer the time. We suspect that things will change significantly over the next week and with people being encouraged not to go to pubs etc, the concerns about being a long way from home with possible small shops closing down or being empty of food in some of the areas we visit is a real posibility so we’ll take each week as it comes. Keep an eye on Facebook and keep an eye out for our emails and do obviously email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any concerns.
Finally, remember, we need you to be vigilant and stay clear if you do pick anything up that sits within the government guidelines to self-isolate. And of course if any of us can help you out in any way then do shout. We are one big happy paddling family after all.
David B, Secretary
You will no doubt have been keeping up to date with the recent news regarding the COVID 19
Each of us must take a responsible approach following the recent advices from the government to
self-isolate in case of high temperature or persistent cough, in the same way we do at work. There
are, I’m sure, people at the club with long term conditions who may suffer if the virus is passed on,
so please do follow the guidelines and stay away if you have the symptoms.
From the club’s point of view there are a few areas where we might be affected and where we might
have to change our plans at short notice.
Club trips – getting together for a club trip will obviously increase the risk of spreading of catching
the virus and therefore we will take a view on the upcoming trips if the government guidance
changes. However, if you are unable to attend because you are following that guidance we will of
course refund your money for the trip. Please just let the trip organiser know.
The pool – whilst the pool is open to the public we will continue to use it, please check out their
website regularly (https://www.mytimeactive.co.uk/locations/west-wickham-leisure-centre) and
obviously keep an eye open for announcements on our Facebook page and webpage too. If anything significant changes we’ll let you know as soon as possible, but we’ll take a view on
government advice as it comes out.
